She grew up in Germany before graduating from Savannah State University to earn her Bachelors in Mass Communication/Media Management in 1990. Women Wealth & Work catches up with radio hostess K. Michelle The MidDay Diva to discuss making it as a On-Air personality at Magic 1039fm.

Hannah Collier: Tell us about how you got started?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: My broadcasting career includes experience in larger, fast paced markets like Atlanta and smaller markets, such as Savannah.I also served as the Atlanta entertainment writer/photographer for America Online and worked for The Atlanta Journal & Constitution in advertising. I am also a free lance published writer, real estate investor and  a seasoned entrepreneur and have owned several successful businesses. I am a self- taught interdisciplinary abstract artist.  As a free-lance voice-over artist, I have also been featured in several national commercials. When not working, I enjoy traveling, painting, sewing, decorating and spending time with my son and family. 

Hannah Collier: So why radio?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: I started radio my senior year of high school as an intern for American Forces Network.  It was fun, so I kept doing it!!

Hannah Collier: What’s Next?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: I am currently working on expanding my beauty line of soaps, body butter and candles with my online business http://www.Kimikoko.com

Hannah Collier: What changes have you seen in radio entertainment ?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: Radio has changed tremendously since I first began.  We used to play records, and even used a reel to reel.  Everything is digital now, no records or cd’s. I can even broadcast from home.   It’s so crazy how technology has changed!

Hannah Collier: How do you measure success for yourself?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: Success to me is being happy!! Do all the things that you want to do and make money at it!!  

Hannah Collier: Where are some of the strengths you need to do what you do daily? Any mantras?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: You gotta have a great attitude!!  What you say is being transmitted to thousands of people!!  So you must exude positivity and happiness!

Hannah Collier: Are there any cons that come with being a Radio Entertainer ?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: You might have to go out to an event when you’d rather be home relaxing. lol

Hannah Collier: What keeps you inspired?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: The love of music!

Hannah Collier: What’s your impact so far?

K. Michelle The Midday Diva: I think I am a positive force in people’s daily life.  They are listening at home, at work and in the car. 

Hannah Collier: What advice or tips would you give to others interested in careers as On-Air personality?

Michelle The Midday Diva: Listen, research, study the competition. Podcasting is a great way to build your portfolio. You have to be creative and explore options for exposure if you don’t see success right away.
